I'm Nort's Bookie...

I was gonna post about all the games... and how Nort only has three right so far this week... but instead I'm just gonna bitch about the Arizona game.

How does Leinart almost pull off the upset of the year last week, and then lay an absolute goose egg against the Raiders?? The Raiders?? He faced tougher teams in COLLEGE.

Wow. It's tough being a Packer fan right now, but if I were a Cardinals fan, I'd keep all sharp objects away from myself.

And other note, the Buccaneers kicker made a 62 yard field goal to win the game. The NFL record is 63. We're supposed to be impressed when a guy makes a 50 yarder. A sixty two yard field goal??? They count the ten yards of the endzone in FG yardage, so that means the guy kicked from beyond midfield!! They snapped the ball from the Philly 45, and he kicked it from the Bucs 48!!!

So how come teams don't try this more often? Why do you never see guys lining up for 57,58,59 yard field goals? There's plenty of times when a team is at the 40-45 yard line, and with the last play of the game they take a shot at the endzone? Apparently, peeps can make it from that far out.

And an extension of that is, why do they only stay seven yards behind the line of scrimmage for a kick? If they have that good of legs, why don't they kick from 10-15 yards behind the LOS? They'd NEVER have a kick blocked then. I don't get that either.

As you know I'm no football expert... but I know a thing or two.

Why don't they try kicking 55+ yarders more often? My understanding is that it's because kickers are pussies who don't want to get their asses kicked after the game if they miss. So they tell the coach ahead of time what the longest kick is that they think they have in their leg, and the coaches believe them. Listen to Adam Sandler's "The Lonesome Kicker" if you need to know more about the kicker mentality.

As for why they don't snap the ball more than 7 yards... blame that one squarely on the long snapper who is very very good at snapping the ball exactly 7 yards back, with the laces up... every single fucking time. If you asked him to snap 8, it would probably go over the holder's head or something. You'd think they could snap 8 yards with the amount they get paid. Hell... I'll snap it 8 if you give me league minimum.

Yea, yea - only three right so far... See, the thing is, I'm not in Vegas and there's no money riding on these picks. I just don't have it in me to play that well until there's something more than just bragging rights on the line. You do remember that day golfing with your dad at Willow Run right? Once beer was involved, 220 yds right down the middle.

I love how you say at the start that "I'm just gonna bitch about the Arizona game" and then have three sentences about it while you write up three times that much about an idiot kicker.

I don't think it's as much on the long snapper as Nick makes it out to be, I think the problem is with the holder. The long snapper can easily snap it back 15 yards, he's doing that on every punt. The holder, however, while down on one knee, and lined up perpendicular to the line of scrimmage is where I think the problem really lies. If he could handle the little variances of a bad snap like a punter does, there'd be no problem lining up every FG attempt 15 yards behind the line.

Wow! Lid's still alive? I thought with how much alcohol he consumed he'd be knocked out for a week.
