Intentional? Naw, ESPN's Not That Good

This is a screen cap from an article page on ESPN.com. We all know that most of the time I think that the people that run ESPN should DIAF, but this page had me cracking up. I can't imagine they were smart enough to do this intentionally - but I can hope.

For those of you not familiar with the Chris Henry saga, click on the picture to read the article.

Then notice the ad for Stub-Hub on the side.

Placement is everything I guess in the world of advertising.

Just Another Pretty Face

A picture so good, they put it in the photo gallery TWICE on the league website. Fourteen friggin passes last year, and one of 'em makes me famous.

Top Three

Which is good, cuz they're only keeping three out of the seven of us. They won't make any cuts for two more weeks, but they did sit us each down alone to give us a heads up of where we were, and what we need to do.

From the powers that be:

Strengths - Leadership, mechanics, and playbook knowledge.
Weaknesses - Tend to be a little flat footed on the last dropback step. Also tends to not use hips enough in throws, uses more arm than necessary. They did say I have above average arm strength, but they think it could be even better if I let the lower body do some of the work.

So I'm pretty happy with the situation so far. When they say they're gonna sit each of the QBs down and tell us our good and bad points, you get a little nervous. But after the meeting, if that's what they have to say - I'm very happy at this point. I've worked very hard on my mechanics, and was a little surprised they're 'the best in camp'. I've been pretty quiet, so I think I can expand on the leadership stuff even a little bit more, and the playbook stuff was easy for me since I'd run this offense for five years earlier in my career.

To fix the flat foot.... well.... lets just say that me and Mr. JumpRope are gonna be good friends for the next few weeks. Oh joy. The hips with the arms is just going to have to be something I keep thinking about. It took a long time for me to not have to concentrate on the difference in throws between a baseball and a football, so this will just have to stay on my mind until I do it right.

The Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach is a great coach, a great guy, and a former QB. I'll try to soak up as much as I can from him.

We finally go outside next week, so we'll be out of the small gym, and can finally open up the offense a little bit. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Will Speaks

Nort hasn't been 'feeling well' lately, and hasn't gone out much. I was going to do a post to make fun of my good friend, and Will suggested I look for a Mr. Garrison quote for a 'Nort Speaks'.

I had trouble finding a quote that applied to Nort ( there were a lot of Mr. Garrison quotes, but none that were downloadable for this situation ). I did find a quote that was usable for something else though.

Sorry dude.

Camp Arm

Saturday I had a chance to go be a "camp arm" for someone that is getting football players ready for pro tryouts. It gave me a chance to throw a few balls and get a workout in. There was a guy from the University of Florida ( TE ) there, and also someone from the University of Iowa. There were a few other people there, and it was a really good time.

That was the kid from Florida. I'm on the right, and I'm six foot three. He was a large dude.

The kid from Iowa is famous for making the last second catch to win the 2005 Capital One Bowl against LSU. It was his only touchdown in college. If you're gonna have only one, that's the way to do it.

There's a couple of guys that played at major programs. And then there was me throwing to them. I did pretty well, and it was fun. But between that, and the combine for the Venom today, I'm hurtin' pretty good.

I Still Hate ESPN

Worldwide leader my ass. I never even graduated college, and I noticed this.

"AFFECTED" you jackasses. Not "effected". It's national television. I can forgive simple grammar mistakes on blogs, cuz they're not paid to notice stuff like that. You're a major network. You might try to catch this stuff.

Also, another beef. I'm looking for interesting information. So when you're talking about something like the NCAA tournament, don't use "since" unless something hasn't happened in over a decade. This happens ALL the time, and becoming overused. For example, some team made the tourney this year. ESPN felt it was important to tell us that 'Team X made the tourney for the first time since 2004.'

So they missed two years. Who gives a f*ck???? Tell me that when it's important, like when a team hasn't made the tourney SINCE 1964. That's some shit I want to know.

Safety Tips

Random thoughts from the week that was....

  • Track started today. Work has been really hectic lately, and it's gonna be tough at the start to give the time that's required. If only coaching would pay enough to pay the bills....

  • Although, since I deal with high school kids, there might not be ever enough money to say that I'd be fairly compensated. There was a kid at the opening meeting today ( not one of my athletes ), that asked the head coach if there would be any running at practice this week. You think there might be some running at TRACK practice??? Wow.

  • I have a new home.

  • There is apparently six of us trying for three jobs, so we'll keep you posted.

  • Nort's having fun at work with the adjustment to DST moving up a few weeks, but I think it's great. Extra light in the evening, as opposed to the morning? Even now that I'm getting up on a pretty regular schedule in the morning, I'd MUCH rather have the light in the evening. I'm gonna be crabby in the morning whether there's light or not.

  • Nick had a good find with a remix of the "Baby Got Back" video. Enjoy it here on it's 15th anniversary.

  • If knowing that it's been 15 years since that came out makes you feel old, just wait. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" None of my vaulters were alive when that came out. Damn we're getting old.

  • Anybody need anything shipped anywhere?

  • God bless you, Little Ceasers, and your $5 pizzas and $1 crazy bread. Yum.

  • I got a nice little traffic bump for my "Duke Sucks" post. It seems that a lot of people liked to Google "Duke sucks", and for a while, I came back as the second listing. Behold, the power of Google.

  • So in an effort to get more traffic, I'd like to say the following; Britney Spears, Anna Nicole Smith, George Bush, Paris Hilton, Hillary Clinton, Antonella Barba, Barack Obama, free porn, boobies, midgets, and beer. Thank you.

  • We got a new couch. One with recliners on both ends. OMFG, it's so comfortable. With that and my tv... if I ever get a PS3, I'm quite certain that I might never leave the house.

  • I wish I had more insightful things to post about. Well, I do, but just haven't had the time to formulate respectable posts about them. I'll try to get some college BB stuff up, and the upcoming NFL draft. That should pretty much kill any additional readers I've picked up lately.

  • I'll end with saying that I would have put up another picture of the seeds I planted, but the f*ckers still haven't sprouted. A website with information on the plant says that germination can take anywhere from 1-4 months. WTF? Shouldn't it be pretty uniform? A three month discrepancy? I have to have a pot of dirt in my office for up to 4 months, and water said dirt for 4 months? Horticulturists are some weird peeps.

Nort Speaks

Nort sent me an email a couple of days ago, asking if I'd like to go to Vegas from the 14-17th. I called him to ask if he meant in 2008, cuz there's NO way I can pick up and go to Vegas in two weeks. Wish that I could, but I can't.

Turns out that Triple D is playing in a blackjack tourney that weekend, so the room and the golf are gonna be comped. So Nort is going for the 'golf'.
In honor of Nort going to Vegas, here's a sample of what it's like to golf with Nort.
